Do Dental Visits Make You Nervous? Sedation Dentistry Can Put You at Ease
Many patients feel nervous or anxious right before a major dental treatment.Nervousness, however, shouldn’t stop you from getting the routine dental care you need to maintain good oral health. If you’re avoiding the dentist due to dental anxiety or fear, we invite you to visit our sedation dental clinic in Burlington, Ontario, for stress-free dental services. At Dentistry at LaSalle, Dr. Swati Khanna, an experienced dentist for nervous patients, can help meet your dental needs.
How Sedation Dentistry Works
Sedation dentistry uses medication to help nervous patients relax for their dental treatments. At our sedation dental clinic, we offer three forms of sedation to meet your dental needs:
- Nitrous oxide (laughing gas) – Nitrous oxide is an odourless gas breathed in through a mask to help you relax during treatment. The gas goes to work quickly and wears off quickly once the mask is removed, so you can drive home after your dental visit
- Oral sedation – Oral sedation is a pill you can take an hour or so before your dental appointment. This pill makes you drowsy, which puts you at ease for your treatment. As the effects linger longer than laughing gas, you’ll need someone to drive you to and from your appointment
- IV sedation – IV sedation is administered directly into your bloodstream and puts you to sleep for your treatment. It’s often reserved for complex dental treatments such as oral surgery. You’ll need a driver to take you home after your treatment
