Healthy smiles for life start with Children’s Dentistry

Like adults, oral health care is crucial for kids, even if they don’t have permanent teeth. At General & Cosmetic Family Dental Clinic, we encourage parents to help kids take care of their teeth and gums at home. Still, we also encourage regular dental checkups for an all-rounded dental care routine.

What to expect during your child’s dental visit

Going by the American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry recommendation, Dr. Swati Khanna recommends parents to take their kids to a dentist before their first birthday or within six months after the first tooth sprouts. When you bring your kid to our dental clinic, here is what to expect:

  • Dental exams: Your child may have just one or two teeth, but it’s important to bring them to a dentist. Pediatric dentists are trained to monitor your kid’s dental development to detect cavities, tooth decay, and bite misalignments, among other dental challenges.
  • Dental cleanings: As an adult, you need a professional cleaning at least every six months. Dental cleanings are even more important for kids since children aren’t thorough with cleaning their teeth. Prophylaxis eliminates tartar build-up by accessing poorly cleaned and hard-to-reach surfaces in the mouth.
  • Dental sealants: Since kids are at risk of cavities, we recommend dental sealants to keep off cavity-causing bacteria.
  • Hygiene education: A typical dental visit is never complete without giving your handy tips for taking care of your child’s teeth and gums at home. We introduce you to playful and fun ways of encouraging your little ones to clean their teeth at home.

Importance of pediatric dental care

Thinking of skipping that upcoming dental checkup for your kid? Shelve that thought because pediatric dentistry yields numerous benefits for your young one. Some include:

  • It prevents cavities and tooth decay
  • Eliminates dental fear
  • It keeps gum disease at bay
  • Prevents oral pain and costly restorative treatments
